Exercise 15: Adding Sounds from an External Flash File

Library of sounds
  1. Create a new Flash document and then Save it as librarySounds.fla.
  2. Next import several sound files into the Library by choosing File > Import > Open External Library or use [Control] + [Shift] + [O]. (You can find an assortment of Sound loops in the classfiles directory of the college server or use several linked at the bottom of this page.)
  3. Locate the FLA file that has the sound file you wish and click to add the library to your panel group. These files are now a part of your current document.
  4. Publish this file so you will have a source .swf file to use later.
  5. Save the file again.

  • NOTE: You can syncsound to a Timeline animation by selecting the sound on the Stage, and then change the Sync option on the Properties panel to Stream. Flash will force the animation to sync to the timing of the audio file even if it has to drop video frames to keep up.

These WAV files are assorted in style and content, you’ll just have to pick the ones you may like. If you want a larger selection try this link: http://flashkit.com/loops/ I got most of these files from there myself. (You’ll spend hours digging through thousands of sound files.) Make sure that you use WAV files not MP3s, Flash will turn your WAV files into MP3s for you and reduce the size considerably. You can use MP3s, but you shouldn’t let Flash compress an MP3 since it is already compressed, it could distort the sound.
