Publish Settings in Flash MX

Flash provides many ways that you can publish your movies for others to view. You can publish a movie that will display on a Web page, publish a movie as a Flash movie file or publish a movie as a projector file so a computer that does not have Flash installed can play the movie. Before you publish a movie, you can preview how the movie will appear, print the movie and test the download performance of the move.

Publishing a Movie on the Web

When you publish a Flash movie for display on a Web page, Flash creates the Web page that will display the movie and the Flash Player file that will appear on the Web page.

Follow these simple steps to accomplish this:

  1. Click File > Publish Settings, and the Publish Settings dialog box will appear.

  2. Click the Formats tab. (Flash should have a checkmark beside the Flash and HTML formats so you can publish a Flash movie on the Web).

  3. Click the HTML tab to specify the settings for the Web page.

  4. You can change the movie size by clicking the movie size option. Some of the choices are to specify a movie size in pixels or a percentage of a Web browser window. (Percents works for me!
  5. )

  6. If you choose the Pause at Start option, the movie won't start until the user clicks a button in the movie or other area you specify. You may also choose to loop your movie or not, right below the above option.

  7. You may choose to have a right-click short-cut menu on or turned off.

  8. You may choose to substitute fonts in your movie that are not installed on a user's computer with anti-aliased, or smooth-edged, system fonts.

  9. You may choose the output quality of the movie as well, but you should choose best at all times.

  10. You may choose which alignment your movie uses, from the default center option to along the left, right, top or bottom of a Web browser window.

  11. After you have made all the display choices, click Publish to publish your movie with the settings you selected.

  12. Click Ok to confirm your changes.

  13. Flash publishes the movie and creates the Web page that will display the movie. Flash will also place all the files in the same location that stores the current Flash document.
