BASICS: The Flash MX Tools Panel

Any time you create or edit anything on the Stage, you'll need one tool selected from the Tools panel. The default location is locked to the left side of the Flash workspace, but you can dock it anywhere you like.

The Tools panel is primarily used to draw onto the Stage it's also used to edit what you've already drawn. The panel is broken down into several sections: Tools, View, Color, and Options.

The Flash MX Tools Panel

TOOLS:
Create graphics and text here with the Line tool and the Text tools. Edit graphics with the Eraser tool and the Paint Bucket tool. Select graphics with the Arrow tool, the Subselect tool, and the Lasso tool

VIEW:
Change the view of the Stage by Zooming in or out. Panning to other parts of the Stage. This is easily accomplished by holding down the spacebar, then click and drag. (The best thing about using the spacebar to access the Hand tool, is that it's only active while you hold down the spacebar). You may also change the view to Show All which allows Flash to scale the entire stage to fit your screen. More tools available from this menu include, rulers, grids and guides.

COLOR:
The Colors section gives you control over the color of objects that you've drawn. More tools are available from the Color Menu Panel and the Properties Inspector as well.

OPTIONS:
This section is dedicated to additional modifiers for certain tools, depending on the selected tool, you might not see anything in this section at all.
