BASICS: Flash MX Document Properties

From the Modify menu you can access the Document Properties panel. (You can also do this by double-clicking the bottom of the Timeline.)

The Flash Document Properties Dialog Box

Here are a few things you should be sure to do, make sure that the Ruler Units is set to Pixels, this also affects several other dialog boxes. Next to the Background Color, you'll see a white swatch that, when clicked, allows you to change the Stage color. (You can change the background color at any time including when you publish the movie.)

There are other Document Properties that are important to set early in the project. Frame rate and Dimensions. Frame rate specifies the rate at which Flash attempts to play—that is, how many frames per second. Dimensions affect the aspect ratio of your Stage. Figure on which size you'd like to see your movie, because if you change you mind later, you will be doing a lot of repositioning.
